I got to watch this movie during an early screening and fortunately I went in without having paid much attention to what I was about to see. I probably wouldn’t have watched it at all if I had known what I was getting into, chick-flicks are really not supposed to be my thing and I have to watch a sufficient quantity of them anyway to keep my wife happy. I wasn’t paying attention during the opening credits and so throughout the movie I kept asking myself “Who is this girl that looks so much like Demi Moore?” Yes I do feel very foolish now so shut up all of you. This seems like a relatively high-budget, mainstream Hollywood movie and as such does not really fit on this website where we try to concentrate on Indie, foreign or otherwise non-mainstream movies, but for some reason it's not going to get a major theater release in the USA, it's going straight to DVD. Guess it's not crappy enough? I guess if its getting the same treatment by the MPAA as the other movies we review here I can find it in my heart to review this film. It's still a chick flick though, so I am going to complain about it as much as possible. Not that it is a bad movie, because it isn’t, it’s more of an integrity thing. I’m sure you understand. Demi, you seem perfectly capable of laughing at yourself so I’m just going to try to help a little with that. Seriously it was a big shock to find that the young thing acting in this film was indeed Demi and not some upstart wannabe trying to make a career out of having a striking resemblance. Story: (possible semi-spoilers)This film is basically a typical female’s runaway imagination with a budget and an eerie Celtic soundtrack. Or, go out and pick up a random harlequin romance novel, reduce it to a formula and oala, there you go. Main Character: Independently wealthy woman with lots of free time to spend in exotic places. This woman is either single with some kind of haunting tragedy or else she is a widow in case the story teller needs to knock out the single/tragedy thing quickly and with minimal effort. Love interest: Semi-long haired guy with good chest and arms, very expensive dental work and an interesting accent. Standard plot element #1: Relationship is based on a false pretext but “true love” follows anyway. Plot twist: (element #2) The main character is NOT PARANOID, DILUSIONAL OR CRAZY IN ANY WAY. There is really some kind of weird conspiracy going on. People you love and trust are trying to hurt you, dead people are talking to you and this has nothing to do with hormones. Nothing at all. Nice things bout this movie.I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. I was thinking about making this point below in “Bad things about this movie” since I didn’t want to like it, and I still don’t want to have liked it. I feel kind of violated. This is a zero testosterone movie. I am not gay. Bad things about this movie: (Definite mega-spoilers)The Harlequin romance world is a scary place. Here men have been known to kill themselves by throwing themselves headlong from picturesque locations, like old lighthouses overlooking a rocky beach on a beautiful Scottish island to Enya-ish soundtracks. All because they can’t live with themselves after having deceived a woman they loved. It’s like an exact mirror image of the real world, where women off themselves because the guys who lied to them don’t care, can’t remember, etc. This movie has nothing to do with the real world. Conclusion:You may like this movie, I did even though I tried really hard not to. I thought it was going to be a horror movie, and it’s not unless you’re terrified or Scottish accents. I am still not gay.
