Well most of the critics have been pretty hard on this one, especially the ones that claim to know a thing or two about shooting pool. Lucky for this movie I have no such handicap and found it just as enjoyable as any other film that deals with a topic I will never care enough about to be able to criticize properly. Story:Basically its trying to be “The Sting” but with pool. I suppose that the viewer is supposed to be willing to believe (for 90 minutes or so) that there is a hidden underbelly in America where people take being a “pool gangster” really, really seriously. Seriously enough to have hot looking groupies, tattoos identifying their “pool gang” and dirty federal agents for whom the temptation of all that pool money and glamour was too great a temptation. If I tell you any more it will ruin your enjoyment of the movie. The Good:You can reasonably expect a lot worse from a straight to video movie, and if you aren’t some kind of a pool nazi this movie is downright enjoyable. The Bad:Stereotypes and clichés abound, but it’s hard to take this movie seriously enough to even get upset at it. Conclusion:I honestly found it enjoyable, a few beers helped of course. |
